FAQ

How is ADHD Coaching different from regular life coaching?

ADHD coaching is similar to regular coaching, but it takes place within the lens of ADHD. Our brains are wired differently, we communicate differently, think differently, come up with goals differently, and have different challenges.

As an ADHD Coach, I can relate to your lived experience, accommodate your behaviours, understand your challenges and your drivers, appreciate your differences and non-linear thinking and lifestyle, and most importantly, connect with you on a deeper level to help you move forward.

How is coaching different to therapy?

First, I’m a big advocate for therapy. Therapy is great to way to invest in your overall mental health, and explore your emotional wellbeing. Therapy can address patterns that emerge throughout your life and tends to have more of a focus on coming to terms with the past to move forward. A therapists asks more “Why?” questions and helps you to understand how your past experiences have shaped your present.

Coaching tends to be more present and future focused. You set your goals, and a coach’s role is to help you identify barriers that keep you from achieving those goals, and implement strategies to get there faster!

We help you to create lasting change by building sustainable habits and staying accountable. yourself?

Do you offer coaching or mentoring?

Both! While these words are used interchangeably, there is a key difference.

Coaching is about unpacking your mindset and the unhelpful beliefs that keep you from moving forward to help guide you towards your goal.

Mentoring is about providing education, insight, and advice to empower you with the right information, tools and strategies to help guide you towards your goal.

To move forward, we need both! I can provide you with the best tools, and it may work for a while, but without unpacking your own internal barriers, the cycle will continue. Likewise, we can work through your internal beliefs and limitations, but without the right knowledge and strategies, it may take you longer to get there.

With this in mind, I offer a “choose your own adventure”, where I can wear the coach or mentor hat depending on your needs.

What should I expect from coaching?

Simply, coaching sessions are a time where we work together and take a deeper look at where you want to be, and what’s keeping you from getting there.

Together, we find solutions and strategies to help you live the life you want, and achieve the goals you strive for.

What to expect during the Coaching Process

This process has deliberately designed to unpack your behaviours, thinking patterns, and most importantly, your ADHD traits, work through them, and get you moving towards your goals.

As you read through this, notice two important points:

  1. When we attempt to tackle challenges on our own, we tend to bounce between step 1 and step 4. We feel a sense of dissatisfaction with where we are now, and then go straight to trying different strategies without really taking the time to reflect on the challenges and focus on the outcomes.
  2. Steps 2 through 5 is where non-ADHD informed coaches can fall short. Not understand how neurodivergent brains work means not having the right information to get to sustained, long lasting change.

1

Where are you now?

First, we begin by exploring the current situation, to assess what’s working , and identifying areas for improvement.

2

How do you want things to be different?

Next, we look to the future to identify your goals, priorities, and values to create a clear vision for where you want to be.

3

What’s keeping you from getting there?

Then, we work together to uncover any obstacles in your way, and any unknowns that may be keeping you stuck.

4

Taking informed action

With a solid view ahead and a plan to overcome roadblocks, we take informed action to create lasting change.

5

Maintaining and sustaining change

Finally, we ensure the changes you make are sustainable and aligned with your values and long-term goals.

Will you hold me accountable to my goals?

Yes… and no!

Your goals are yours to own. Each session ends with you deciding and commiting to the actions steps to take.

As your coach, my role is to create a space for you to come as you are! I will hold you accountable to the commitments you make, while also acknowledging that we are not perfect.

Experimenting with new strategies and trying things out is a crucial part of your growth process. If something is getting in the way of that, it’s my responsibility to take a step back and help you work through barriers.

Sometimes you have to take a step back to take two steps forward.

What can I talk about during our sessions?

As a coach, I am bound by confidentiality, and adhere to a code of ethics laid out by the International Coaching Federation (ICF)! You can talk about anything in confidence, everything stays between us, as long as no harm will come to you or others.

In saying that, there are times I am required to provide recodings of client sessions to for accreditation and training purposes. The mentor and accreditation body is bound by the same confidentiality as I am. If that’s something you’re not comfortable with, do let me know.

Do you offer one-off single sessions?

You can book into a 90-minute Strategy & Planning session. In this session we work through 6 questions to help us deep dive into, what are your goals, what is getting in the way, and how to overcome them to get to where you want to be.

This is great if you want somewhere to start exploring your ADHD and start understanding your brain.

Creating lasting change in your life takes time, which is a part of the reason why coaches tend to offer packages, to help support you and keep you accountable.

How do I schedule my sessions?

You can schedule your own sessions through your dashboard once you’ve signed the agreement. If any of the available times don’t work, shoot me a message, and we can work out a suitable time.

Why don’t you have more times available for scheduling?

To maximise my own productivity, I block out different times for different types of sessions. My availability will vary depending on which type of session you are booking in.

If the available times don’t work for you, shoot me a message and I will happily find a time that suits us both.

Do you work with kids/teens?

I generally prefer working with parents. While I don’t specialise in working with little kids, I’m happy meet with teenagers in a free discovery call, as well as meeting the parent on a separate discovery call.Coaching is a very personal journey, and if your teenager feels that I can support them in their goals, I’m happy to work together.
